Africa’s biggest elephant slain by hunter who paid $62K for the kill

A hunter has paid nearly £40,000 ( about $62,000 ) to kill what was one of the largest elephants ever seen in Africa.
Pictured standing next to his fallen quarry in a national park in Zimbabwe, the anonymous hunter is believed to be a German national who was taking part in a 21-day hunt with a local guide.
The elephant’s 55 kg tusks were so big they dragged along the ground as he walked, until he was shot dead on October 8.
Unlike Cecil the Lion who was shot by a tourist hunter in July of this year, the slain elephant doesn’t seem to have had a name but was thought to be between 40 and 60 years old. According to The Telegraph, he had never been seen before in Zimbabwe’s southern Gonarezhou National Park, lending an air of mystery to his identity.
One man who helped arrange the hunt argued that the hunter has done nothing wrong. He said, “This was a legal hunt… We hunters have thick skins and we know what the greenies will say. This elephant was probably 60 years old and had spread its seed many many times over.”
Cecil the Lion’s death sparked global outrage when it emerged that an American dentist called Walter Palmer had shot him with a crossbow before he was put out of his misery using a shotgun.
Please explain to me why some men have to kill something infinitely precious to feel like men. Does it make them feel important, God-like, more potent ? These days, in the eyes of the rational world, it just makes them murderers.
