Oscar Pistorius recounts moment of killing

Oscar Pistorius recounts the shooting
South African athlete Oscar Pistorius described, in court, the moment he fired the shots which killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his home. He recalled heard noises from the bathroom and thought an intruder was coming out.
"Before I knew it, I had fired four shots at the door," he said.
The trial of the athlete, who could face life imprisonment if convicted of murder, was adjourned until Wednesday after he broke down, sobbing.

The 27-year-old double amputee denies deliberately shooting Ms Steenkamp on Valentine's Day last year. On his first day on the stand, on Monday, he made a tearful apology to Ms Steenkamp's family. The prosecution alleges that Mr Pistorius killed his girlfriend after an argument with her.
In the early hours of 14 February 2013, he said he had got up from bed to bring in some fans he had left outside, in order to cool his bedroom. When he heard a window opening in the bathroom, he said, he thought there was a burglar trying to get in. Wanting to protect Ms Steenkamp, who was not sleeping, he had gone to get his gun in the dark.
"I whispered to Reeva to get down and phone the police," he said.
He said he then went into the passage without his prosthetic legs and, overcome with fear, started screaming, and shouted for Ms Steenkamp to get to the floor.

The toilet door slammed, reconfirming his belief there was a person or people in the bathroom, the athlete said.
"I heard a noise from inside the toilet, what I perceived to be someone coming out of the toilet," he said tearfully. At that point, he shot at the door.
After the shooting, Mr Pistorius said he had smashed in a door panel to get into the toilet, where he discovered what he had done.
"Whilst I leaned over the partition to get in, I saw the key, so I took it and I unlocked the door, and I flung the door open, and I threw it open," he said, sobbing.
"And I sat over Reeva and I cried... and um, I don't know how long... I don't know how long I was there for... She wasn't breathing." As the athlete broke down, the judge adjourned the trial.
Earlier, the athlete described how the couple had spent a quiet evening together on February 13th; Ms Steenkamp doing some yoga as he spoke to his cousin on the phone.
He had then watched TV in bed with his head resting on her stomach and she would occasionally show him photos of cars she was looking at on her phone, he said. He said that they had bought Valentine's Day gifts for each other. He had bought her a bracelet and they had been due to go the jewellers' to collect it the next day, he said.
Ms Steenkamp, a 29-year-old model, reality TV celebrity and law graduate, was hit by at least three bullets while in the toilet cubicle of Mr Pistorius's home in Pretoria. Known as the Blade Runner, Mr Pistorius holds six Paralympic medals and competed in the 2012 Olympic Games. There are no juries at trials in South Africa, and his fate will ultimately be decided by the judge, assisted by two assessors.
Even if he is acquitted, South African law stipulates that the court must consider the separate, lesser charge of culpable homicide, or manslaughter. If convicted on this charge, he could face between six and 15 years in prison.  Mr Pistorius also faces charges of illegally firing a gun in public and of illegally possessing ammunition, which he denies. Just what is he guilty of ? Will we ever know the  truth ? The world waits with bated breath.

  1. He woke up to an empty bed, and his first thought was that the person locked in his bathroom is a dangerous intruder? Then, still not knowing the whereabouts of his girlfriend, he shoots 4 rounds into the bathroom door?
And while I'm at it, I'm curious if any ladies might tell me if they have ever locked the bathroom door in the home they shared with their boyfriend, and, if the answer is yes, why?
I'm sure he'll get off with a slap on the wrist--famous guys like him always do. What blows me away is if this was indeed a "tragic case of mistaken identity", why was it still 'OKAY' for him to blast away at somebody who was trapped in a windowless bathroom with only 1 door out of which to escape? No, Pistorius was playing Rambo at best, and deliberately shot Steenkamp at worst. His blubbering doesn't move me.

Hey , it's just me and the way I roll .
    Good post PIC

  2. Jeannie ,
So many questions Oscar will have trouble answering: what is the story behind the blood spatters on the headboard and wall in the bedroom, which is down a hall, and two 90 degree angles from where the shooting happened? Why would a woman who just got up to pee take her purse and cell phone with her, and lock the toilet cubicle while she was at it? More than one witness testified they heard shots 'THEN' screaming; per the investigator, she was shot in the hip first , non-fatal; how could anyone receiving a painful gunshot NOT scream in pain? One thing this trial has made me grateful for: our criminal trial procedure. We don't allow defendants to make ridiculous in court apologies as a preamble to their testimony, nor talk about their dog rescues, or how tough their life has been as an international track star - all totally irrelevant to the issue at hand.

What an onslaught of emotional manipulation this man's defense is.

He seems to be trying to prove his case to a jury....but there is no jury other than public opinion. It's as if he's trying to win over the press and not the judge. The judge is just going to follow the law and the law says he's the only witness and should be presumed innocent.

    My humble opinion

  3. You are so right Witchy. His story is so full of holes you could drain pasta with it.
Apparently he had to pass right by the side of the bed where Reeva was supposedly laying awake, to get to the bathroom.
And wouldn't he stop shooting when he heard a woman scream?
He has guilt stamped all over him. I think he was riddled with jealousy because she was so beautiful and guys came on to her and he didn't feel he could compete.
Yes he'll get a slap and a warning with time served.
    There ain't no justice

  4. Hey Gil,
They do seem to be glossing over the awkward bits, at least in Pistorious' testimony. No woman would take her cell into the bathroom at that hour of night and lock the door unless she was calling for help. She was terrified and knew he was coming for her.

You think she sustained a beating before he shot her? Maybe that's what he initially wanted to cover up. But she wouldn't co-operate and tell her family she walked into a door.

As I said to Nee, why wouldn't he stop shooting when he heard her scream if it was all a tragic mistake?
He's a manipulater alright but his dad is pulling his strings. I think he is counting on public opinion to pressure the judge and panel. He is trying to bamboozle the public with his tears and genuine remorse... an'Oscar' worthy performance. He
will walk or stump out of there a free man.
